Devil chickens
On page 44 of “Go With the Flow” in the June/July issue, there is a picture of a woman with a chicken on her shoulder. I believe the chicken is a Mottled Houdan. We always called them devil chickens because the comb did not grow on the top of its head and was shaped like small horns on each side of the beak.
One day a young niece was visiting and wanted to know what kind of chickens they were. She was told they were devil chickens. She thought about it for a moment then asked, “Is that where deviled eggs come from?” We all got a good laugh.
